Adopt-A-Defib is committed to saving lives and making Public Access Defibrillators more readily available
At that moment when the AED is needed, access to it is critical. The rescuer must be able to utilise the ‘One Hand Rule.’ This is where grabbing the AED just requires one hand rather than both because of items in the way.
Don’t hide it. Sounds simple, right? It is. Yet, there are too many accounts of some organisations keeping them in locked offices or closets, behind other equipment, or even still in their original packaging.
“Where is the AED?!” During an emergency, this question can be a crucial one. With your mind racing and adrenaline pumping, it’s important to know where key items are located and stored at all times.
A Defibrillator embedded in a cabinet on the wall of your workplace, club or school can mean the difference between life and death if someone collapses unexpectedly especially in the middle of a crowd.
My name is Angie and in 2013 I founded the not-for-profit initiative Adopt-A-Defib in memory of loved ones lost to Sudden Cardiac Arrest and survivors. We proudly support businesses, clubs and schools by making public access Defibrillators affordable, clearly visible and easily accessible for an all inclusive price.
Every day Cardiac Arrest steals many lives of those around us. It can happen to any individual, whether you are young, old, active, or not.
Everyone should learn how to resuscitate someone as Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the most common cause of unexpected death in the western world. It strikes suddenly and without warning and more than 80% of these deaths occur in an out of hospital setting.
For the best chance of survival the casualty immediately needs to receive effective CPR and treatment with a Defibrillator.
A Defibrillator should be part of the furniture in any public building, just as a fire extinguisher is, I therefore encourage local businesses to seriously consider the investment.
“No matter the cause of Sudden Cardiac Arrest, one thing always remains the same – what happens in the first five minutes holds the key to survival”
Is your Business, Club or School HeartSafe?
Have one or more clearly visible, easily accessible Defibrillators installed on the premises and personnel educated on the location of these Defibs to become HeartSafe with Adopt-A-Defib. Business, Clubs and Schools are awarded a HeartSafe magnet for the steel wall cabinet together with the HeartSafe social media image below.
C.A.R.D.I.O. Medical Emergency Control Plan for a Heart Safe Workplace™ C.A.R.D.I.O. is the medical emergency control plan for the incident controller at the scene of a sudden cardiac arrest. It guides rescuers and onlookers to stay focused on tasks that will enhance the success of the rescue, i.e. survival of the casualty.
